Imperial versus metric system

Because back when Britain had control of the new land, America, the Americans brought over the British imperial system (or the system of inches, feet and miles).  As time progressed, the metric system gained far more popularity than it's counterpart however, America decided to adopt and retain the imperial system.  We will need to be able to convert on the fly!

1 mile = 1.6 kilometers
1 inch = 25 millimeters
3 feet = about 1 meter
2 pounds = almost 1 kilogram
1 pound = 454 grams

Just as measurements are different, temperatures are altered as well.  It will be extremely important to keep track of the temperature so we know when would be a good time to apply sunscreen... although it is summer so we will most likely be wearing it all the time.

32 degrees F = 0 degrees C (aka: the freezing point)
75 degrees F = 24 degrees C (aka: a pleasant day)

Just in case you would like to challenge yourself, here is the equation so you never have to memorize temperature comparisons.

F = (C x 2) + 30

And there you have it: the metric system!
